Department Head - Percussion

Charles Cheaver is associate professor in percussion. Prior to his appointment at SIM, he was the principal timpanist of several orchestras for nine years and a regular performer as both percussionist and timpanist for ten. He has performed with numerous orchestras.

Cheaver 's chamber music experience includes performances with the Chamber Players, the Percussion Group and the New Century Quartet. He is a founding member of the Percussion Group.

Cheaver has won both first and second prize in composition from the Arts Society. A number of his compositions are considered standard percussion repertoire and are played internationally. Cheaver has appeared as a performer, composer, or clinician at seven Arts Society International Conventions. Cheaver is an Artist/Educator clinician for the Percussion.
